Texture Tuesday – Suede

Texture Tuesday featuring: suede trends and one of our Limited Edition pillows

Suede has made its appearance once again this upcoming fall season. Soft and tactile suede is making a statement in the fashion and home decor world. Offered in understated neutrals or soft hued colors, suede really hones in on the relaxed feel to the season’s fashion. But don’t just stop at neutrals and soft colors, bring it on in neon and bright shades as well. Suede these days has become a big player in Spring runway collections and now the appearance of suede in stores usually means that spring is right around the corner.

For suede to look appropriate in summer, it needs to feel light.  Colors like tan, beige, and light gray are great in the summer. So are strappy open styles that expose a lot of skin or lightweight suedes that drape on the body and are truly comfortable and wearable in warmer months. We love suede shoes with brightly colored summer dresses as well has suede jackets, which can spruce up every warm weathered outfit.

Suede furniture has become a staple in many homes and is easy to clean and soft to the touch. We love curling up on our suede couch and relaxing while staying out of the Austin heat! XO PG

Texture Tuesday – Snakeskin

Texture Tuesday featuring: snakeskin trends and one of our Luxe VIP pillows

Snakeskin can be worn in many different ways these days and we love it! This past spring, we saw a sudden resurgence of serpentine prints in neutral hues on all kinds of accessories, and were delighted to note even more snakeskin for fall, albeit with a twist. This time around, snake prints are available in a slew of bright hues, and can be found on everything from beautiful blazers and skintight pants to wallpaper and pillows. Of course, no matter if you’re a risk-taker or prefer a more classic look, you can always punch up your wardrobe (and home!) with some colorful snakeskin accents. We think clutches, and even jewelry, blend well with any seasonal outfit.

Used in moderation, snakeskin often adds a chic sense of style and intrigue in
both fashion and design. Because of its natural origins, snakeskin may often be
used as a textured neutral, making it an extremely versatile choice when styling fashion for your home of workspace.   Depending upon its color and surroundings, snakeskin can translate as sophisticated, edgy, sleek, and confident. However…be warned…too much snakeskin inserted in the wrong context may also translate as tacky. XO PG

Just in case you didn’t get enough red, white and blue last week, here are some more ideas to get you through the summer. The fourth of July always brings out these three symbolic colors all over the country. The celebration of our nation’s independence is associated with sizzling barbeques, dazzling fireworks and our beautiful flag can be seen waving freely in the wind. If there was ever a time to get decked out in red, white and blue — not to mention stars and stripes — it would be for the fourth of July. It’s no secret that bold prints, and even pastels, are all the rage this season, so naturally diamond prints fit right in and must be next on our trend list. We like to think of it as a modern take on the classic argyle pattern that your seeing in fashion clothing and styling for the home.  Around for years, this pattern features a lot of textures and variation in coloring and size. Sometimes even a traditional pattern like this can be slightly twisted and elongated for a more modern take.  It adds a bit of jazz and brilliant texture to any object, yet remains classic and simple. We love quilted diamond prints on anything. So remember, diamonds are always a girl’s best friend! With a nod to ’80s hip-hop, the bling-heavy print adds a touch of glam with a slyly ironic wink. Texture Tuesday – Yellow & Gray

Texture Tuesday featuring: yellow & gray trends and one of our Limited Edition pillows

Our latest obsession: yellow and gray! This trend has stuck around in the fashion and home decor world for a couple years now, yet continues to be fresh. Nothing goes better with gray, in our minds, than yellow. Adding a bright color with a dull neutral creates a beautiful color palette that looks good on all aspects of design. We cannot resist a yellow and gray pattern on anything! It looks classically chic on items around the home, yet looks exquisitely elegant on the runways. Mixing this trend with cream and black can also add some vintage spunk to the palette. So think bright and lively as you shop around for yellow and gray this season. XO PG

Texture Tuesday – Coral

Texture Tuesday featuring: coral trends and one of our VIP pillows

One of this season’s biggest trends is the color coral. Nothing lifts us out of our why-isn’t-it-hot-yet blues more than wearing a pop of color. This summer, it’s all about integrating hints of redish, pinky corals into our wardrobe. Coral is everywhere and we cannot get enough of it.  We’ve bought coral earrings, shoes and dresses because we’re just loving this color oh-so-much!!  It’s really showing up in homes too and looks great paired with hints of gold.  Painting one of the rooms in your house coral can bring a smile to anyone’s face who sees it. From the runways to the department stores, along with color-blocking, bright coral is without a doubt a big trend this season.  And it’s really no surprise, not only is this color eye-catching and bright, but it’s also girly and fresh….perfect for spring and summer outings. Celebrities have been wearing it everywhere from the red carpet to the grocery store.  Give it a try – you too can pull of this great trend with style! XO PG

Texture Tuesday – Fringe

Fringe is hot this season! - featuring one of Deborah Main's pillows

Fringe has been slowly making a comeback on the runways.  This summer and into the fall/winter seasons it will add a playful touch to your wardrobe and home. Fringe dates back to the roaring 1920′s when women wore necklaces and dresses with beaded fringe.  This year fringe has been seen on designer handbags and shoes…and more recently as decor accents in our homes. Hanging fringe from your ceiling in an open doorway, or to partition a dining area off of a main room, can add mysterious drama to your home while also being a tad flirty. Fringe bangs have also been popular for a few years now and can add depth to your hair.  Whether its on a pillow, shoes, hair or handbag, be sure you don’t go overboard, as one accent piece with fringe can go a long way!  XO PG
